What happens after you cancel Apple News+
Your Apple News+ access continues through the end of the current billing period - Apple does not give prorated refunds. After expiration, the News app still works but only shows free articles.
Charged the same day you canceled?
If you were billed immediately before canceling, request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com within 90 days. Apple grants these for prompt cancellation requests, especially if you haven't used the service that cycle.
